13. Sooke - Port Renfrew - 55 km

21.04.2009

I had to foresee that, and I did : writing a blog while traveling on a bike and camping is a hard, almost impossible task, especially in two languages. Sorting pictures, selecting some and uploading them takes me more time than I was expecting to invest in the whole stuff. So get used to late and short messages...

First chain issue, under a beating sun and a freezing wind, which makes clothing hard to adapt to. That'll be this way for the whole next week...

Ok, the picture is bad, but it's my first sign of that kind

After this hard, hilly ride, I can't resist the call of the true, old heavy duty camping food. And here it is, in this one and only grocery shop in Port Renfrew, a can of corned beef is calling me. I remember having tasted it once, when I was a kid, thanks to my grandfather who calls it "monkey". No baked beans to go with it, though, maybe another time, to make it a whole genuine cow-boy meal...

I'm not too fond of the big piece of fat, though, so I throw it into a bush, and a nice blue bird appears from nowhere and grabs it...

This campground has coin-operated showers, but unfortunately I don't have loonies. I end up using my two water bags as a shower. 6 liters are enough for a quick wash, then, if you can use a sink for your face and feet. I also wash my laundry, because I don't know yet that it's going to rain all night long!

I forgot that I found something on the side of the road... a video camera! It looks broken, but it works! I'll try to do something with it back in Vancouver.
